Choosing a photographer
Having trouble choosing a photographer? There are so many options out there, so which photographer should I hire? Let me tell you why you should hire me.
There are certain times in our lives that we deem as special: a pregnancy, the birth of a child, their milestones as they grow. While every day can have moments that you want to keep, these special moments are precious and deserve professional level photography to capture them. These are the moments you want to put on your walls and remember for years to come.
As a professional photographer, my job is to help you look and feel your best with the right lighting, posing and wardrobe choices. I invest time and money into the best equipment, education and props to ensure your session is fun and memorable. I aim to ensure that your images are everything you would want to proudly display in your home.
Safety
Hiring a professional photographer isn't always just about getting great images, especially when it comes to newborn photography. Safety is my number one priority for newborn photography. There is no pose, prop or image worth risking the health of a child. I have taken classes and workshops from the leading photographers and trainers in the industry. I carefully hand select all of my props to ensure that they are sturdy and safe for use with newborns. All props, wraps and gowns are cleaned and sanitized before and after each session.
Style
Every photographer has their own style – a way of photographing and editing that's unique to them. Posing styles include traditional formal posed, lifestyle or a mix of both. Editing styles can include light/airy, boho, vibrant or dark and moody. Find a photographer whose style resonates with you. For example: It may look odd to have a light and airy style in your home and have dark and moody photographs decorating it. My style is vibrant, warm, natural, and timeless. I employ both posed and lifestyle shooting techniques. I love a clean, vibrant color palette that will let the images achieve that timeless look you want.
Lifestyle vs Posed
To know what style you prefer, you need to know what they entail. Formal posed portraits are probably the ones you are most used to seeing. Everyone is gathered together and smiling at the camera and can be shot either in studio or on location; this traditionally has been the go-to for professional photography. Lifestyle is more casual, but does employ some posing to get the desired look. Usually these images are shot in or around the client's home or on location and often will have people looking at each other instead of at the camera. Lifestyle emphasizes the connection between the participants while traditional focuses on the connection between the participants and the camera.
Connection
Like any friendship or business partnership, you want to feel a connection to your photographer. Being able to talk to and laugh with your photographer is very important to achieving natural looking images. I want to feel a connection to you as well. Getting to know you as a person, learning your likes and dislikes, hobbies and who you are as a person helps me to design a photo shoot that is fun and memorable.
Price
I deliberately put price at the end because it should be the last thing you should think about when choosing a photographer. While price is important, it is not the most important thing to consider when hiring a photographer. Find a photographer who will fit with your style, understand your vision and be able to deliver consistently great images. Getting the images you want the first time will save you time, money and energy in the long run.
My pricing structure is set up so that many levels of budgets can be accommodated, with varying sizes and styles of products. I also offer payment plans for those who would prefer to stretch the costs across a couple of months. I hope this has helped you make your decision on choosing a photographer. Hint: it's me!
